about

FINALLY an official physical release of this genuine New Zealand classic!
Down to final copies now.
Loris ebook on overcoming trauma is now bundled free with this download.

Several years ago a friend posted a music video online and wholly unprepared for what I was about to be confronted with I hit the play button. In an obviously amateur video a young woman walks up a beach towards us before we cut to a shot of her singing to camera in her bedroom studio. Ranging across a background of cheap pop oriented keyboards, bass and drums her voice is unique, her Kiwi accent incredibly dominant and her enunciation peculiar. We follow her out of the house, to the local 'dairy' (small corner shop) before we return to the beach and into the chorus of the song where we suddenly notice that the young woman, Lori, is weeping.

You can watch the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzM3okQcTl0
There are several versions (one with nearly 100k views) but this is the one that I first saw.

Somehow transcending what should add up to cheap melodrama the whole thing is instead utterly captivating and moving and I found myself returning to the video again and again over the proceeding years. It remains difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is about this video- this song- that causes such a reaction for myself and her myriad other fans but it is that mystery that is perhaps part of the magic itself. I have wondered if the sheer familiarity of the small town New Zealand/Aotearoa cultural setting (and accent) is a part of it but then I know that Lori has followers all over the globe.

At one point I decided that I was such a fan that I would look for a physical manifestation of the song as a souvenir to actually hold in my hands and was a little perplexed that nothing existed, no CD, tape or record. Some years later I found myself subject to the crazy impulse to start a record label documenting unique New Zealand small town home recording artists and rectifying this oversight seemed the obvious place to start. And so 15 years after it was recorded 'Chill in my Vein' gets the release it always deserved.
